Audrey Colleen (Johnson) Stofleth Holt, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Audrey was born in Franklin County, IL on July 4, 1921. After moving away from Illinois, Audrey moved to Midland, TX before eventually settling in Evansville. She was a 1942 graduate of Reitz High School and was one of the original art students who painted the murals on the walls of the school in the early 1940’s.
As a young WWII bride she lived in Oakland, CA with her two young children. Audrey was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County and was retired from General Tire Corporation (GenCorp). She was known for her baking skills and loved to make cookies during the holidays for her family and friends. With her second husband, Mack, Audrey helped to train and race trotter horses, traveling all over the United States and parts of Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Dellus and Bertha Gladys (Cremeens) Johnson; her son, Francis “Hank” Stofleth; her first husband, Bernard J. Stofleth and her second husband, Mack Holt.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Stofleth) Pugh Bullock and Paulette Stofleth; granddaughters, Cathy Pugh White Thompson and her husband, Michael, Sherri Pugh Kerner and her husband, Jeff, Jeanne (Bruce) Hatfield, Lori (Stofleth) Rodgers, Amy (Stofleth) Taylor; grandson, Tim Stofleth; 13 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Other loved family members include, Kenneth and Karen Pugh and her dear friend and neighbor, Julie Coffman.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kim Volz, Dr. Anthony Stephens, Dr. David B. Curtis and the staff of Deaconess Hospice Care Center and hospice program for all their loving care of Audrey during her final illness. The family would also like to thank the other neighbors who helped watch over her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home with burial to follow in Locust Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Deaconess Hospice or the American Heart Association.
