SFC Mitchell Christopher Gibson, U.S. Army, age 37, of Princeton, IN passed away at his residence on Tuesday, August 25, 2009.
Mr. Gibson was employed at Toyota as a team leader in body welding for 8 years and a member of St. Boniface and Holy Redeemer Catholic Churches.
Mitch was a decorated member of the United States Army serving in the 1st and 398/2/98 Division (BCT). He had been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal and the Armed Forces Service Medal.
Surviving Mitch are his wife, Andrea Gibson; his daughter, Emma Lou Gibson; his mother, Dianne Gibson of Franklin, IN; brother, Matt Gibson of Greenwood, IN and his grandmother, Cecile Forsthoefel. He is the loving uncle of William and Maggie Gibson, Katie Pipken and Maddi and Mason Weightman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Paul Gibson and grandfather, Dr. B.H. Forsthoefel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, August 31 in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, IN at 2:30 P.M. E.S.T. where military rites will be conducted.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850. The Fisher House Foundation provides “comfort homes” to families of injured military personnel so that they may be with their loved ones during their hospitalization. No family pays to stay at a Fisher House.
