Obituary:
Harold C. “Butch” Folz, 95, of Evansville, passed away on September 5, 2009 at The Heritage Center. He was born September 3, 1914 in rural Vanderburgh County. Butch was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Leona in 2000; his parents, Henry and Katherine (Meyer) Folz; brothers, Albert and Chester and sisters, Lilian, Minnie, Mildred and Laura. Surviving are three daughters, Carol Sue (David) McCarthy of Lexington, SC, Charlene (Ray) Schapker and Darlene (Andy) Goebel, all of Evansville; grandchildren, Jeff and Kevin Schapker, Rae Ann Titzer, Pat and Gregg McCarthy, Anne Stewart and Brian and Eric Goebel. Also surviving are fourteen great grandchildren, his sister, Virginia Holtz and several nieces and nephews. As a young man, Butch was an avid baseball player, having pitched in the local semi-pro leagues in the early 1930’s. In addition to being part owner of two Evansville taverns in the 1940’s, Butch was proud of his employment as a carpenter at the Evansville Shipyards during World War II. His working career also included employment with Sunbeam Electric in the 1930’s, International Harvester in the 1950’s, and eventually retiring from Whirlpool Corporation in 1978 after 22 years of service. A funeral mass will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 418 N. Wabash Avenue, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Pierre Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church or the Mater Dei Friends and Alumni Association. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Heritage Center, where Butch resided for the past eight years, for their special care.
