| Obituary: |
George F. Esche, age 93, of Evansville, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital.
Mr. Esche was a member of Zion United Church of Christ at Lippe and the Robinson Township Conservation Club. He was a farmer and had lived on the farm all of his life, only leaving the farm long enough to serve in the Army engineers in North Africa and Italy during WWII. During his time in the Army, George supervised the construction of asphalt runways for our planes and served as an interpreter for captured German soldiers.
Surviving Mr. Esche are two sisters-in-law, Emma Marie Griese of Evansville and Olivia Laura Griese of Mt. Vernon; his cousin, Esther Schmitz of Wadesville; nieces, Jeanette Hunter and her husband, David of Wadesville and Diane Governor and husband, John of Fayeteville, OH; nephews, Dwight Esche of Evansville, Dennis Griese and his wife, Marsha of Evansville and Mark Griese and his wife, Sharon of O’Fallon, MO. Also surviving are many great and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday at Zion United Church of Christ – Lippe, Rev. Jay Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Thursday at Zion United Church of Christ – Lippe.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ Memorial Fund or Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery Fund.
