Lawrence P. Luigs, age 93, of Wadesville, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital.
Mr. Luigs was born December 22, 1915 to the late John and Barbara (Spitzer) Luigs. He was born in the home and lived there for the next 93 years. He was a retired dairy farmer. His life was the farm and he remained concerned about it up until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church. He loved his family and was always concerned about his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Pauline and Rick Elpers of Evansville and Mary Jane and Jim Nurrenbern of Fulton, MO; three sons, Steve Luigs of Wadesville, John Luigs and his wife, Jane and Ed Luigs and his wife, Sonji, all of Evansville; ten grandchildren, Sarah Luigs, Tina, Brad and Kimberly Elpers, Lynne (Jason) Wilson, Channing McQuay, Cliff, Gregg (Maggie), Geoff (Jenny) and Erica Nurrenbern. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Samara McQuay and Alyvia Elpers.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Muensterman) Luigs in March of 2000; three sisters, Rose Rexing, Olivia Schmitt and Josephine Adler and two brothers, William and Anton Luigs.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 6, 2009 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Wendel Catholic Church or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
