Obituary:
Urban F. Kercher, age 81, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, January 05, 2010 at the Heritage Center. Mr. Kercher was a life-long member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a Memorial High School graduate, a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict and had attended Officer’s Candidate School where he was awarded the Sharpshooter Medal. Urban was employed as a Sales Representative for Building Products, Inc. for 20 years before retiring from American Roofing Supply in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Twin Towers, Howell Booster Club and Par 3, St. Boniface Men’s Club and the St. Boniface Prayer Group. Urban is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary M. “Marty” Kercher; four daughters, Karla (Carlos) Solis, Sara (Ron) Hoehn and Donna Holm, all of Evansville and Lea (Steven) Johnson of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, Kenneth (Teresa) Kercher and Gary (Janine) Kercher, all of Evansville. Also surviving are a sister, Betty Hagel of St. Louis, MO; 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 35 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Aurelia (Schentrup) Kercher, his sister, Wanda Kercher and two brothers, Donald and Charles Kercher. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 8, 2010 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street where there will be a memorial service held at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Friday at St. Boniface. The family respectfully requests no flowers be sent. Instead memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 417 N. Wabash Ave., Evansville, IN 47712 or the Monastery of St. Clare, 6825 Nurrenbern Road, Evansville, IN 47712.
