Lucille E. (Schutte) Altstadt, 89, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Pine Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Lucille was born July 14, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, IN. She graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1939. In 1955, she graduated from DeVry’s School of Beauty Culture and for the next 27 years owned and operated Lou’s Beauty Shop while working evenings at Willow Bowling Center.
Lou was one of the original organizers of Sacred Heart Boy Scout Troop # 99, presently Troop # 399. She herself was an active girl scout at Sacred Heart Church where she attended grade school.
Lucille was an avid bowler. She enjoyed playing the organ, cooking, sewing, crafts, candy making, cake decorating, working puzzles and gardening. She loved animals. She loved taking care of her grandchildren when they were younger and feeding them as they got older.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Frank G. and Estelle (Deutsch) Schutte and her brother, William Schutte.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Altstadt and his wife, Diane Weiss-Altstadt of Evansville, grandchildren, David (Kori) Altstadt, Karen Sumner, Michael Altstadt, Alan (Angela) Altstadt, all of Evansville and Kristi (Michael) Colbert of Elberfeld, IN and great grandchildren, Blake Altstadt, Kassidy and Jacob Sumner, Macy Altstadt, Britnee and Kaitlin Altstadt and Samantha and Tyler Colbert. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Gladys Schutte of Hagerstown, MD and Cornelia Altstadt of Jasper, IN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 25, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 600 Cherry Street with Rev. Ted Tempel officiating.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 610 E. Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47713 or Vanderburgh County Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Drive, Evansville, IN 47710.
The family thanks the staff at Pine Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center, the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice and a special friend, Liz (mom’s roommate) for the excellent care and compassion given to Lucille as she journeyed to eternal life.
