Marjorie L. Charlson, 95, passed away Jan. 25. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and The Ladies of Charity of St. Vincent Day Care Center, where she had served as secretary for many years. She worked extensively with the Sisters of St. Vincent’s and St Mary’s Hospital (then on 1st Ave), visiting the sick and aged and delivering food and clothing to the less fortunate.
Marjorie was a past president of the Vanderburgh County Democratic Women’s Organization. During her tenure in office she went to Washington, D. C., and attended a dinner honoring President Harry Truman and the Democratic Senators. She had the honor of personally meeting John F. Kennedy, at that time a Senator from Massachusetts
In 1981 she retired from the office of Roy C. Cobb, CPA, where she served as an accountant and office manager for 30 years.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Charlson, in 1971.
She is survived by a son, Stephen (Jo Marie) of Norton, Ohio, and a daughter, Cathy (Darrel) Pinkston of Evansville, nine grandchildren: Joseph, David, Dan and Paul Charlson, Stephanie Reese, Michelle Powers, Melanie Laidlaw, Carrie Rowbottom, and Matt Pinkston, 21 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a cousin Barbara James, who helped care for her.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Heritage Center and Heritage Hospice, for the excellent care provided.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Rev. Chris Forler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Friday at Holy Redeemer.
