Obituary:
Shirley M. (Glaser) Campfield, age 82, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Deaconess Hospice Care Center. Mrs. Campfield had been employed at Mead Johnson for 5 years, at Anchor Supply for 2 years and had served on the Board of Directors of the Evansville Association of Retarded Citizens during the 1950’s She was a 1945 graduate of Central High School and was a singer with various local bands from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. She, along with her husband, moved to Florida in 1982 where she was instrumental in forming two volunteer organizations, in Lake Worth, FL to combat drug problems in the community. The two organizations were the Lake Worth Concerned Citizens, of which she was the President and a Board Member, and the Lake Worth Community Development Corp., which she served as the Marketing Chairperson, Secretary and a Board Member. She was an early promoter of the Community Policing program in Lake Worth which put officers on foot and on bicycles in problem neighborhoods. She received many community service awards and commendations during her 15 years as a volunteer and community activist in Florida. Surviving Shirley are her husband of 60 years, Harrel Campfield; three daughters, Julie Beherns of Remington, IN, Carol Costa of Evansville and Laura Campfield of West Salem, IL; three sons, Roger Campfield of Evansville, Daniel Campfield of Terre Haute, IN and Christopher Campfield of Boonville. Also surviving are a sister, Dana Jo Alstadt of Strongsville, OH, nine grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where a memorial service will be conducted by Rev.
