Betty J. (Market) Koewler, 69, of Evansville, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at Deaconess Hospital.
Mrs. Koewler was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Altar Society at St. Boniface and had worked at both St. Boniface and Sacred Heart Catholic Schools. She also worked for Shane Uniform Company and Zeidler Floral Company. After her mother died at a young age, Betty helped raise her brothers and sisters in addition to her own children. She loved auctions and yard sales, enjoyed quilting, loved her animals and every spring would raise baby chickens and ducks.
Surviving Betty are three daughters, Kathy (Rich) Henderson, Lori (Brian) Korn and Kristie (Joe) Phelps, all of Evansville; one son, Richard (Cassie) Koewler of Evansville; five sisters, her twin sister, Bev Coomes of Boonville, Anita Buchanan of Morganfield, KY, Gloria Sloan of Elberfeld, Donna Ward of Evansville and Kathy Market of Newburgh; six brothers, Ted Market of West Virginia, Frank Market of Boonville, Edgar Market of Evansville, Charles Market of Cartersville, GA, Joe Market of Boonville and Tim Market of Evansville; eight grandchildren, Richard II, Jessica and Brian Koewler, Spc. Josh Henderson and Zach Henderson, Travis, Colton and Grace Phelps. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Ava, Leah, Aubrey and Hailie and very special friends, Elma Townsend, Velda Best, Kathy Pugh and Sister Bridget Arnold.
Mrs. Koewler was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Anthony J. Koewler in 2008; her parents, Arthur and Leoda (Brieter) Market and four brothers, Jimmy, Harold, David and Bob Market.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 9, 2010, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh County Humane Society or St. Boniface Catholic Church.
