Obituary:
Helen Jean (Schoenbachler) Holland, 79, of Evansville, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Helen was born October 6, 1930 to the late, Meinrad and Amelia (Mueller) Schoenbachler. She was a lifetime member of the VFW #1114 Ladies Auxiliary and St. Rita’s Auxiliary. Helen attended Sacred Heart School and Church and graduated from Memorial High School class of 1949. After her marriage she became a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where she is still a member. Helen had worked at Mead Johnson, Woolworths, DeJong’s, and Zeidler’s Florists. Helen enjoyed making afghans, which in later years she donated to nursing homes. She was a very family oriented person. She loved attending Mater Dei sporting events and traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Fischer and Mary Vaupel and brothers, Earl, William, Robert, and Meinrad, Jr. Schoenbachler. Surviving Helen are her husband of 57 years, William Holland, her two daughters, Debra Brenner and her husband, Ronald of Tuscaloosa, AL., Diana Flanigan of Evansville, her sister, Rose Cheaney and her brother, Clarence Schoenbachler, both of Citrus Springs. FL. Also surviving are her two grandchildren, Nathan Brenner and his wife, Andrea and Matthew Flanigan and four great grandchildren, Sarah Katherine, Elizabeth and Abigail Brenner and Brandon Flanigan. Funeral services will begin Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10:00 A.M. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rev. David Nunning officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 4 P.M. The family would like to thank the staffs of both the VNA Charlier Hospice Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center for their care of Helen during her illness. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
