Name:
H. Wayne Carr

Date:
August 14th, 1929 - April 24th, 2010

Obituary:
On April 24, 2010, Wayne Carr left this world and woke up in the arms of his Heavenly Father. Born on August 14th, 1929 to Anna Elizabeth (Cross) and Joseph Vollie Carr, Wayne was the 9th of 11 children. He was a graduate of Reitz High School and worked for Red Spot Paint & Glass as a Glazier, President and Business Agent for Glaziers Local #1385. He worked there for 31 years until his retirement in 1987. He loved to hunt, fish, and do woodwork. In his later years, Wayne rode five miles on his stationary bike every day, ultimately logging 35,000 miles and proudly announcing that he had ridden around the world. No matter how bad he felt, he was faithful to ride his daily 5 miles. Wayne was also the #1 supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s games and events. Seldom missing, they knew he would be there to cheer them on. But first and foremost, Wayne was a follower and servant of his Lord Jesus Christ, proudly proclaiming his faith to all he knew. His earthly ministry was to offer encouragement and prayer to the sick and the grieving. First thing every morning, Wayne would get up to read and study the Bible. He would then pray for all the people on his extensive prayer list, each one individually. His day always included his ministry of going to the hospitals and funeral homes and visiting the sick and grieving. Over the years, he has ministered to hundreds of individuals who have been so grateful for his spiritual support. Armed with his oxygen tank in one arm and a big smile on his face, the staff at the various hospitals became very familiar with him as he went on his daily rounds. Because of his extensive lung damage, doctors would have never guessed that Wayne would have lived as long as he did. But he was living proof that if a person has a purpose for living, and lives his life outside of himself for other people, that life can be extended. To the very end, when he had no energy left for anything else, he was still ministering and serving others, stating that God had more work for him while he was still on earth. He was a faithful deacon at New Bethel Baptist Church. Wayne Carr is one who will surely hear the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant”. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by sisters, Aline Carroll and Helen Hinderliter; brothers Harry Elvis, Gene, Hilliary, Ottie and Bob Carr, and a son-in-law Steve Winnecke. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Jeanette (Frank) Carr; sons, Leonard Wayne (Donna) Carr of Evansville, Mark (Sharon) Carr of Mt. Vernon, Clement (Monzelle) Carr of Evansville, and daughter Pam Winnecke of Evansville; grandchildren, Lauren (Dave) Bell, Markus Wayne (Christy) Winnecke, Allison (Jason) Rugani, Shelley Winnecke, Hillary Carr, Jeremy Quinn and Joshua Carr; great-grandchildren Alexandra, Berkeley and Briley Neikirk, Logan Wayne, Bella, and Tyler Wayne Winnecke. Also surviving are sisters Nellie Deig and Edna Crawford, both of Evansville; brother, Vollie Carr, Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law Clem (Julie) Frank of Evansville and sister-in-law Marilyn (Mick) DeShields of Evansville, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
