Obituary:
Beverly Jean Ahlering, 62, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away early Sunday morning, April 25, 2010, at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. She had just begun a brave fight against multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, and was taken up to heaven by a sudden complication of the disease. Beverly was born on May 11, 1947, in Evansville, Indiana. She graduated from Reitz High School and Bramwell’s Business College and became a skilled data entry and computer operator, which led her to meet her dear husband, John Ahlering. They were married on July 20, 1973. After having three daughters, John and Bev moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with IBM Corporation in 1984, where they raised their beautiful children and made wonderful friends. In 1999, Beverly and John formed their own sales technology business, and her contributions were essential to their success. In 2005, after the girls had all finished college, Bev and John made their way to a lovely coastal home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where Beverly enjoyed walking their dogs, Tucker and Tess, and socializing with her neighborhood friends. Beverly continued as the business manager of her and John’s company, and was also pursuing her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies. Additionally, she served as an exchange student coordinator for EF Foundation, a cause close to her heart, as she and John had hosted countless exchange students from around the world. Beverly loved creative writing, poetry, and corresponding endlessly and selflessly with her loved ones. Many say Beverly inspired them in a way nobody else ever had – she was a positive motivator and prolific communicator to the world and its people. Beverly was preceded in death by her infant sister, Rita Ann, in 1946; her mother, Joyce Margaret Jung, in 1993; her mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Ahlering, in 1980; and her father-in-law, Raymond Ahlering, in 2007. Beverly was the beloved matriarch of her family, and is survived by her husband, John Raymond Ahlering, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; her daughter and son-in-law, Beth Anne Ahlering and John Dominic Gibbeson, of London, England; her daughter Joyce Marie Ahlering and partner Adam Garrett Brake, of Tacoma, Washington; and her daughter Jane Ellen Ahlering, of San Francisco, California. Beverly is also survived by her four brothers and her sisters-in-law, Ralph and Linda Jung, Pete and Ginny Jung, Den and Eda Jung, and Ron and Ann Jung, all of Evansville, Indiana, along with nieces and nephews and their families, Joe, Blaine, Josh, Laura, Jason, Rita, Kerri, Amanda, and Sallie. Visitation will be Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 West Franklin Street, from 2-6 p.m. and Sunday, May 2, from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will begin Monday, May 3, at 9:30 a.m. at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing with a funeral mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rev. David Nunning officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Beverly felt strongly about contributing to cancer research and organizations that would help others, and she spoke of this very often in the days before her death, as in her life. Thus, in lieu of flowers or gifts, we welcome you to join us in supporting and donating to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in Beverly’s honor at www.themmrf.org, or at MMRF, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, Connecticut, 06851.
