Obituary:
Kimberly Ann Booker, 53, of Evansville passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010 after a brave battle with breast cancer. Kim was born May 12, 1957 of James Robert Booker, Jr. and Enolia (Whitney)Booker in Evansville, Indiana and remained a resident of Evansville throughout her life. Kim graduated from Reitz High School in 1975. After graduation Kim attended Indiana State University of Evansville, Kim made the decision to dedicate her life to the service of her community and was hired as an Evansville Police Officer on August 13, 1984. She graduated 28th in her class from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy on December 21, 1984. She became the first female member of the Evansville SWAT Team serving from July of 1989 through September of 1995. During this time she was promoted to the rank of Corporal on October 1, 1983. Kim attained the rank of Sergeant in August of 1999. She was able to fulfill a dream by attending the FBI Academy where she graduated on June 11, 2004. As a 26 year member of the Evansville Fraternal Order of Police, Kim served as the Conductor/Chaplain, Trustee and Vice President of the local chapter for three years from 2007 to 2009. Kim was awarded the local Fraternal Order of Police President’s Award in 2001 for her service to the FOP. In addition, she served on the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police Foundation Board of Directors. In 2008 Kim was awarded the Addie Maddox Memorial Award by the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police for devotion of duty, love of the true fraternalism, sincerity of purpose, and concern for the well being of a fellow officer. It was Kim’s dream to live her life in service to her community and considered herself blessed to have been able to live that dream. Kim enjoyed vacations on the beach, a good Dolphin football game, an occasional golf game, a spirited game of pool volleyball, a good mystery, serving her community both on duty and off, and spending time with her family and friends. Kim was preceded in death by her mother Enolia (Whitney) Booker, her step-mother Shirley (Hardin) Booker, and her sister Pamela Gayle Booker (infant). She is survived in death by her partner of 15 years, Kimberly Kay Witherspoon and her children Allison, Aaron and Matthew. She is also survived by her father James Robert Booker, Jr., brothers James Robert III, Larry James, and Robert Daniel, sisters Shirrie Dawn Hays and her husband Jeremy, Lisa Ann Deer and her husband, James, Vicky Lee Rideout and her husband Rick, Pamela Gayle Jeffries and her partner LaQuita, nieces and nephews, and a family of lifelong friends. Funeral services for Kim will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Evansville Police Department Chaplain Darren Sroufe officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00P.M. Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday at St. Boniface. The family and friends of Kim Booker would like to thank all those who gave their love and support through the long hard fight for life that Kim gracefully endured. A special thank you to the caring staff at OHA of Evansville and the VNA Hospice. Kim’s family would also like to send a loving thank you to Larry Nelson for always being there when Book needed a hand. Memorial contributions can be made to Susan G.
