Carolyn “Sue” (Groves) Buente, age 74, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Sue was born August 21, 1935 to the late Charles Raymond and Dorothea (Moore) Groves. She was baptized at Howell General Baptist Church, was a 1953 graduate of Reitz High School and attended Westwood Baptist Church. She had worked as a beautician for over 40 years and had a shop in her home for many of those years. She was a longtime member of Crescent City Civitan, previously serving as president and having recently been awarded the International Civitan Fellow Award and many other awards. Sue enjoyed volunteering and was a very active with the Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Club at Impact Ministries, Evansville ARC, the Pink Ladies at Deaconess Hospital, Vacation Bible School at Westwood Baptist Church, and at several area nursing homes. She dearly loved her family and grandchildren, enjoyed her friends and eating out, shopping, dancing and singing country or gospel music and boating and fishing. Sue was a Christian, a very special lady and she will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Ervin Buente; two sons and their wives, Mike and Marcia Buente and Jeff and Janet Buente, both of Evansville; a sister and her husband, Donna and Clarence Boswell of Evansville and a brother and his wife, Ted and Linda Groves of West Allis, WI; grandchildren, April and Elmer Boeke, Summer and Roger Wilderman, Amanda, Sara, and Rachel Buente and Olivia and John Minor. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Quentin Boeke and Bailey Wilderman and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Lynn Schmuck in 1974 and a sister, JoAnn Pruden.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Westwood Baptist Church, 121 S. Boehne Camp Road, Rev. Dave Teruel and Rev. Ted Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 8:30 A.M. until service time on Saturday at Westwood Baptist Church.
