David L. Scheller

David Scheller, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a friend to many, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 to be with his Lord. He was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church. He was born in Posey County on May 18, 1946 to the late Sylvester J. and Martha E. (Paul) Scheller. He was also preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Scheller and sisters-in-law, Rita and Cathy Scheller. Surviving David are his loving wife of 48 years, Mary (Moore) Scheller; a son Greg (Sarah Miller) Scheller; daughter, Kristi (Brian) Statler; grandchildren. Brendan and Brooke Scheller, Alexis, Garrett, and Keagan Statler; stepfather, John H. Paul of Evansville; brothers, Daniel Scheller and Ronald (Carol) Scheller of Evansville and John Scheller of Poseyville; sisters Caroline (Ivan) Reidford of Poseyville, Monica (George) Espenlaub of Baytown, TX. , Tina (Jeff) Pate of Wadesville. David graduated from St. Wendel Grade School, Mater Dei High School, and ISU-Evansville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. He was most proud to be an All Sports Award recipient, Kiwanis Award winner in basketball, and to captain the 1964 MD basketball team during their monumental upset of Evansville Central in the IHSAA basketball sectionals. He completed his degree at ISU-Evansville while working at Koch Label Co., where he was employed for 34 years. He began his employment at an entry level position, progressing to machine operator, supervision, and numerous managerial positions, ultimately becoming the president of the company. David had a lengthy career as a semi-pro pitcher and shortstop in the Double II league for St Wendel, and a shortstop for North Posey Lettermen’s slow pitch softball team. In addition, he served many years as president, little league and pony league coach for the St Wendel Athletic Club. During an 11 year residency change to the St. Louis area, he served on the board of directors at Ballwin Athletic Association, coached travel team and American Legion baseball for Ballwin, MO, and earned the name “Coach”. Other hobbies included golf, fishing, and boating on Kentucky Lake, where so many treasured memories were created. He was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Indiana University basketball, and Notre Dame Football. Sports was his passion, family and friends his love, and grandchildren his pride and joy. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 p.m. Friends may also visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at St Wendel Church.
