Mary Amelia Cooper

Mary Amelia “MiMi” (Strange) Cooper, 89, of Evansville, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on October 12, 1934 in Evansville to the late Clarence and Marcella (Davis) Strange. She was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, now St. Boniface and was a member of the Altar Society at the church. She worked as the manager of Pizza King on the west side for many years. Mary was “MiMi” to not only her grandchildren, but everyone she knew. MiMi was always up for any adventure her family had in store for her. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan and her love of her great grandchildren is what kept her going these last few years. She enjoyed playing clabber and games with her family and it was widely known that she would “accidentally cheat” from time to time to help her own cause. Surviving Mary are three daughters, Cyndi (Kevin) Prindle, Ronda (Camaro Costello) Torres, and Jenny (Bernie) Mayer; a son, Jon Cooper; sister, Gail Wirtes; brother, John Strange; grandchildren, Amanda (Eric) Antey, Craig (Christa) Prindle, Clay (Samantha) Prindle, Nathaniel Torres, Nicholas (Katelynn) Torres, Deven (Shelbie Mushrush) Cooper, Cooper (Jake) Lannert, Chloe (Wes) Luttrell, Peyton (Tyler Effinger) Mayer, and Blaine (Jill Happe) Mayer, as well as great grandchildren, Maggie, Stella and Parker Antey, Lucas, Brady and Graham Prindle, Rosie Prindle, Cash and Dean Lannert, Augie and Eden Luttrell, Sterling Effinger and Willow Cooper. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ronald G. Cooper in 2015; by a son-in-law, James Torres; sisters, Margaret Wathen, Betty Lou Wolf and Eileen Happe and brothers, Rex, Russell, Willard, Leo and Edward Strange. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 14, 2024 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rev. Christopher Droste and Rev. David Nunning officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 5:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1600 Glendale Ave. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary’s friend and caregiver, Rita Metcalf, as well as Mary, Erica and Kayla from Compassus Hospice for all of their kind and compassionate care.
