Anna L. Turpin

Anna Lavida “Vidy” Turpin has been called by her Heavenly Father to the home He had promised to prepare for her. She passed peacefully from this life to life eternal on July 29, 2008 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family. She courageously fought life’s final war with pain and has crossed the river to her heavenly home where there will be no more pain or suffering. In her early years, Anna was a talented acrobat and gymnast. Throughout her years she was game for tubing down mountain streams with her grandchildren, ice skating, swimming, playing ping pong and badminton, and many other activities just for fun. She was a homemaker most of her life, devoted to caring for her beloved husband, Jack, and children, grandchildren and great grand children, all of whom she loved dearly and was very much protective of them all. She had a joyful sense of humor, always playing harmless jokes and pranks on her family and close friends. She would often dance playfully with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. All of her family and friends knew her well for her teasing and she was always one to laugh at herself. She leaves behind many fond memories. She was a very sweet, caring, loving person with compassion and concern for anyone in need of help. She was a caregiver for many years to friends, relatives or anyone who was alone or in need of a friend or companionship, often driving them where they needed to go or just spending time with them. She also spent a lot of time serving as a volunteer with the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary. She was a devoted Christian and a 35 year member of First Avenue Presbyterian Church. She had a lovely singing voice and faithfully sang in the church choir for many years. She loved to drive by the river at Newburgh, take drives in the country, visiting quaint little shops and stores along the way, looking for deals and bargains. She also enjoyed vacations trips to the family condo in Florida, and Gatlingburg and the Smoky Mountains. Anna is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jack William Turpin, one daughter, Barbara J. Goddard of Maryville, TN., and three sons and their wives, Jack Thomas and Barbara Turpin, Charles Timothy and Gail Turpin and William Steven Darlene Turpin, all of Evansville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Tom, Jeff, Todd, Jason, Jennifer, Stephanie and Christopher and fourteen great grandchildren, Jay, Drew, Anna, Mallory, Cassidy, Tanner, Danen, Cameron, Jackson, Lauren, Merrick, Jacob, Wesley and Reagan. She was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Meier and a brother, Charles Shroat. Services celebrating Anna’s life will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Pierre Funeral Home, Dr. Ray Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Tupman Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday and from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. Her family would like to thank Dr. Melinda Jackson for her excellent and compassionate care for Anna during her extended illness. They would also like to thank all the staff at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center for their kindness and professional yet compassionate care during her stay there. Also, a very special thanks is extended to Dr. Ray Parker for all of his spiritual support and prayer during this difficult time, and to Dr. Dennis Davenport for his visits and spiritual support. The family would also like to extend thanks and appreciation to Anna’s lifelong friend, Nadine Lemaster, for her many visits and support during her hospice stay. The family requests memorial contributions be made to VNA Charlier Hospice Center or the American Cancer Society.
