Bertha Jane Burgdorf

Bertha Jane “Bert” Burgdorf, 93, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Linda W. White Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. Bert was born on September 30, 1932, in Yankeetown, Indiana to the late Guy Quentin, Sr. and Frances H. (Taylor) Cornell. She had worked in the payroll departments of Bernardin Bottle Cap, Dataco, and Lohnman Drilling Company before going to work as a bank teller and retiring from National City Bank. She was generous volunteering her time for the USI Varsity Club, USI Foundation, and USI Intramural Sports, as well as with St. Paul’s UCC and the VA Clinic in Evansville. Bert spent many, many hours continuing and expanding upon her mother’s work in genealogy at Willard Library. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and also in bowling leagues at Franklin Lanes. Bert is survived by her daughter, Shirley Burgdorf; two sons, Gary (Carol) Burgdorf and David Burgdorf; two grandchildren, Ashley (Stacy) Burgdorf-Bernaugh and Adam Burgdorf and a great grandson, Demetrius Bernaugh. In addition to her parents, Bert was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Jack Burgdorf; by three sisters, Juanita Cornell, June Will, and Mary Held and by four brothers, Guy Q. Cornell, Jr, William Cornell, Roger Cornell, and Marion Cornell. Funeral services for Bert will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. J.D. Rose officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 PM until service time on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
