Candace Sue Knight

Our dear mother Candace Sue Knight sadly passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2022, at the age of 77. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the Evansville community. She was born on August 13, 1945, to the late Donald Mills and Dorothy Thrasher in Tell City, IN. She graduated from Central High School in 1963. She married the late Gerald E. Knight I on September 3, 1965. After having her children, she went on to study Cosmetology at Tri-State Beauty College graduating in 1972. Candy spent her 35-year career training thousands of Cosmetologists at Tri-State Beauty College going on to own it before retiring in 2007. She served the Indiana Cosmetology Association for many years and held many different offices within the organization. Candace was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gerald Evans Knight I, sister Kay Herndon and her grandson David Knight. She is survived by her sons, Gerald (Rico) Knight II and Drew (Cindy) Knight and her daughter, Rachel French; Her grandson, Tristan French; She also leaves behind her brothers, Donald (Patty) Mills, Terry Mills, and Michael (Nancy) Mills; her cherished inherited sister, Dorothy Happe, sister-in-law, Patricia Rice and brother-in-law Jerry Herndon. She also leaves many nieces and nephews along with dear friends who will sadly miss her. In her retirement you would find Candy enjoying arts and crafts, sewing, shopping, volunteering, but her favorite thing in life was the shenanigans thar her and her grandsons would get in to. Everyone Candy knew will greatly cherish her impact on their lives, either through love, friendship, mentorship, or teaching. In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill. I cried endlessly when you died but I promise, I won't let the tears mar the smiles that you've given me when you were alive. I know you are listening from above. Our family would like to send a heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the professional, kind and thoughtful service that Pierre Funeral home provided during this difficult time. At her request, in her final wishes, there will be no memorial service or funeral, a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. She wished to be remembered and acknowledged as a hard working, loving mother, loyal, unselfish friend and esteemed, respected colleague.
