Carroll E. Herrenbruck

Carroll Edward Herrenbruck, 86, of Evansville Indiana went home to be with Jesus on March 22, 2016. He was born June 15, 1929 in Poseyville, IN. and was the son of Mathilda Katherine (Ebert) and Henry George Herrenburck. Carroll passed away peacefully at his home of 61 years on Evansville’s Westside. Carroll was married to Jeanne Annette Davis on August 27, 1949 at St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Evansville, IN. They were married for 66 years and have been a loving example of family values and perseverance through trials. Carroll was the loving father of Janie Thomas (husband-Dennis) and Jim Herrenbruck (wife-Cheryl). Carroll was never happier than when he was surrounded by family. Those blessed by his love include his grandchildren Matt Thomas (wife-Ann), Katie Dossett (husband-Keith), and Kelly Vaughan( husband-Jacob). He also dearly loved his great grandchildren, Emma, Ben, Kate, and Will Thomas. He loved and is survived by his sister Doris Rutledge (husband,-Fred) and their children-Chris Rutledge(wife-Gretchen and children Sam, Emily, and Annie) and, Kevin Rutledge (wife- April and daughter Anna ),his sister-in-law-Cora Kelly (husband-Gary) and their child-Patty Scott (husband-Blair and children-Erika and Hunter), sister-in law-Wilma Herrenbruck (and sons Rod and Todd and their families ). He was also blessed by numerous other nieces and nephews from both sides of the family, their spouses, their children and their children’s children. Carroll is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother: Kenneth Herrenbruck Carroll worked as an accountant until he retired at the age of 70. He was a respected employee of Hahn Inc. for 24 years, Seedkem Inc. for 3 years, General Oilfield Supply for 10 years, and Frontier Kemper Constructors Inc. for 12 years. He was a long time member of the Westside Optimist Club, Sunday School teacher at St. Paul’s UCC., and a Boy Scout leader. Carroll’s proudest achievement was winning the hand of his bride Annette. Their story is one that was written from their birth. They were born 8 hours apart and were delivered by the same doctor. The Doctor delivered Carroll before midnight and Annette after midnight so they had different birthdays. 18 years later they met at a youth fellowship meeting as Annette acted out the song "Gotta get somebody to love." And Carroll thought “Well, why not me?” That love story lasted for 66 years. Carroll went to heaven to be with his bride exactly 6 months to the day that she slipped off to heaven. He is happy now and free to walk, run and dance with his sweetheart. His other great accomplishment was the home he built and filled with family, friends, love and laughter. Carroll was extremely generous with everything he had. He was never happier than when he could entertain family and friends and enjoy making them happy. He will be forever remembered and forever missed because of his loving and giving heart. His departure from this earth will leave each of us with an empty space that cannot be filled. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Rusche for the care he gave throughout Carroll’s life. We would also like to say a special thank you to the caregivers from Home Instead who lovingly and faithfully cared for and loved both Carroll and his wife Annette. When you entered the doors to their home and as you worked to love and care for them you became a very special part of our family. We were blessed and pray we were also a blessing to you. We are forever grateful to God for blessing us with your love which often extended long after your job as care giver ended. You are special people with special gifts and we thank you for sharing them with our family. We also wish to thank the In Home Therapists from Pro Rehab for their tireless efforts to help Carroll regain his strength and mobility. We feel very blessed that God placed you in our lives and his life at such a difficult time. Visitation will be held at Pierre Funeral Home at 2601 West Franklin St. on Friday, March 25 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and at Olivet Presbyterian Church located at 5600 Oak Hill Road on Saturday, March 26 from 11-11:30am prior to his memorial service in the sanctuary. A Celebration of his life will be held at Olivet Presbyterian Church following visitation on March 26 at 11:30 officiated by Pastor Dave Mills. The family asks that you honor Carroll by donating in his name to Easter Seals of Evansville. This organization was of great support and provided much needed adaptive equipment which helped him remain as mobile and comfortable as possible during his final year on this earth. We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for giving us the gift of his life for these 86 years.
