Connie Vernon

Constance B “Connie” (Kollker) Vernon, age 70, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Connie had worked at the University of Evansville as the Director of the Intensive English Center & Special Projects until her retirement in May of 2006. She enjoyed developing programs for students from all over the world. Connie received her Bachelor Degree from Indiana University in 1964 and a Master’s Degree from the University of Evansville. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church. Connie enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends and her favorite dog, Snoopy. Surviving Connie are her husband of 24 years, Lee Vernon; five daughters (three of her own and two step daughters), Gretchen (Brian) Raben, Kimberly (Scott) Bonnell and Kelly Fritz plus two stepdaughters, Christine (Bryan) Sullivan and Laura Howard, all of Evansville; a sister, Patricia (Bob) John of Evansville; brother-in-law, James Ochs of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, Tyler Raben, Emma Raben, Elizabeth Raben, Joseph Howard, Evan Bonnell, Lauren Raben, Ellsa Bonnell and Estelle Bonnell and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack, Sr. and Marie (Jennings) Kollker; a sister, Carol Ochs and brother, Jack Kollker, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rev. Phil Kreilein officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where a memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at Resurrection Church. Connie’s family extends a special thanks to Anthony Stephens, MD, Carol Brake, RN and all of the staff at Oncology Hematology Associates for their skilled and compassionate service. Memorial contributions may made to the National Lung Cancer Partnership or to Visiting Nurse Association Plus of Evansville
