Delores Helfrich Schroeder

With sadness in our hearts, Delores Mary Weinzapfel Helfrich Schroeder, age 92, passed peacefully at Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Delores was born on December 27, 1932, in Anderson, Indiana, to the late Alphons and Elma (Bassemier) Weinzapfel. She was a proud member of the Mater Dei class of 1950, the first graduating class of Mater Dei High School. She maintained a close friendship with many of her classmates. Delores worked at Old National Bank, Reis Catering, Woolco, Hills, and Venture, but her most important job was being a mother to her children. Delores was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County; she was active in her prayer group and the Cursillo movement and volunteered her time to distribute communion to the homebound members of her church. Surviving Delores are two daughters, Deborah Collins and Donna (Brett) Stucke; sons, William (Shannon Donovan) Helfrich, Robert (Kabreea Baumgart) Helfrich, and Brian (Erin Donovan) Helfrich; grandchildren, Christopher Collins, John “Jay” Busan, Andrew, Matthew (Hope), Margaret “Maisie” (Michael Cantner) Helfrich, Elizabeth “Bess” Helfrich, Katherine “Katie” Helfrich, Jeffrey Helfrich, Patrick (fiancée, Amy Bubala) Helfrich, Robert “Robbie” (Julia) Helfrich, Joseph Helfrich, Adam Helfrich, Dustin Lindsay, Logan (Ashley) Morton, and Dalton Lemond, and great grandchildren, Allen Collins, Nicholas and Braelynn Clark, Asher and Maren Morton, Nyx and Hemera Lemond and Robert “Bo” Helfrich. Also surviving Delores are her sister, Rosemary Hicks; brothers, Alphons “Al” (Darlene) Weinzapfel, Jr and Thomas Weinzapfel, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, William Helfrich in 1993; by a second husband, Donald Schroeder in 2019; a son-in-law, Jim Collins in 2022 and by a brother-in-law, Jim Hicks in 2008. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a rosary recited at 7:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6202 W.
