Don Charles Sawyer

Don “Buzz” C. Sawyer, age 56, of Evansville went to his eternal home to meet his Maker Saturday, February 7, 2015 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Don had worked for Koester Companies for 25 years and for the last 10 years at Summit Contracting. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local # 181 and worked in construction most of his life. Don is survived by his wife, Kristy Sawyer; two daughters Leah Sawyer and Karsyn Sawyer (at home) and three sons, Justin Sawyer, Chad (Becky and her son, Isaiah) Sawyer and Zach (Laureli) Sawyer. Also surviving are two sisters Jackie (Dan) Yancy and Brenda Sawyer and five grandchildren, Rex, Leo, Zoe, Breanna and Gabriela Sawyer. Don was preceded in death by his parents Stafford Rex and Virginia Sawyer, his sister Nancy Johnson and his special dog, Kricket. Don loved God, was a devoted husband, and loved his sisters, children, and grandchildren. His journey through his illness became a spiritual journey. God became His main focus and he knew that God was the only place where he could draw his strength and perseverance. It became apparent that after so many long stays in the hospital God was working on his spirit. Don touched the lives of so many people through his inspiration and testimony of how God was changing his life even in this challenging time. Don’s heart was huge and so filled with love! Don was baptized by Mike Lagenour in his hospital bed on February 5, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. God was so present in his room as we prayed for Don. It was a beautiful day as we finished with singing Amazing Grace. Don loved life, enjoyed working, loved spending time with his family and his dogs Sadie and Grace, took pride in his home and yard and had a sense of humor that never stopped. A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin, Pastor Dale Beaver and Mike Lagenour will be delivering a special of message of HOPE. Burial will follow in Poseyville Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M and again Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at Pierre Funeral Home. We would like to thank all the nurses and techs at St. Mary’s Medical Center on 6 East for their dedication, their loving care, and their compassion to Don and his family. We are forever grateful!
