Donald J. Becker

Donald J. Becker, 84, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Clare and Lynn Hassler. Don was born July 13, 1932 in Evansville to the late Henry and Mary Agnes (Stahl) Becker. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a more recent member of St. Philip Catholic Church, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Knights of Columbus and a Benedictine Oblate of the St. Meinrad Archabbey. Don worked as a buyer for the Whirlpool Corporation for 42 years before his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Surviving Don are three daughters, Maria Kaiser of Evansville, Clare (Lynn) Hassler of Mt. Vernon and Beth (Randy) Immel, of Newburgh; a son, Eric (Craig Lemberger) Becker of Boston, MA; one sister, Frances Burnett of Evansville; a brother-in-law, Fred Radwanski of Boulder City, NV; eight grandchildren, Samuel Kaiser, Leslie (Ron) Kempf, Nathan Hassler, Jacob (Maggie) Hassler, Luke Hassler, Brady Allen, Brianne Allen and Devin Lembeck and four great grandchildren, Cooper, Lucy and Oliver Kempf and Zeke Hassler. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth A. (Gilles) Becker in 2015; by a great granddaughter, Sydney Kay Kempf; by five sisters, Julia Radwanski, Marie Becker, Hildegarde Becker, Agnes Cecilia Becker and Cecilia Agnes Becker and by four brothers, Bernard Becker, Thomas Becker, Henry Becker and George Becker. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 5, 2017 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Claude Burns officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Monday at St. Philip Church.
