Donald R. Rogers

Donald R. Rogers of Evansville, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the age of 87. Don was born on February 11, 1937 in Evansville to the late Alvin and Evelyn (Smith) Rogers. He was a 1955 graduate of Central High School. He met the love of his life and future wife, Janice Taylor, at the Burdette Park Skating Rink in 1952. After graduation they were married and they recently celebrated 69 years of marriage. Don was involved at West Terrace General Baptist and Memorial Baptist Church. He was known as “Super Frog” through his puppet ministries he and his wife Janice performed at local churches, revivals and banquets over the years. Don and Jan also sang in the gospel quartet called “The Revelators” and in 1963 they traveled to Nashville to produce their first album. Don served in the Army National Guard; he delivered papers, worked at WVHI Christian radio as a licensed radio operator. He retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 45 years, 9 months and 4 days of service. Don often joked about working three jobs to provide for his family. As an avid outdoorsman, Don took multiple trips to hunt and fish with friends and family. A special memory was his last trip to Texas to hunt Sand Hill Crane with his son and grandson. Don’s great joy was spending time with his family, sitting around the campfire listening to his kids and grandkids talk about their lives. He loved taking long walks with his chocolate lab Ashley and watching his grandchildren’s various sporting events. Don took great comfort in knowing that his family all believed in the Lord as their Savior and that he will see them once again. Don is survived by his best friend and wife, Janice (Taylor) Rogers; son, Troy (Roxanne) Rogers; daughter, Desiree (Mike) Eddington; grandchildren, Paige (Logan) Crick, Drake Rogers, Alex Eddington and Jacob Eddington; sisters-in-law, Judy Allen, Karyn Rogers and Patsy Rogers, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Laubscher; brothers, Wayne, Terry and infant Charles Rogers and by his brother-in-law, Harold Laubscher. Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of their friends and co-workers who have been praying for Don during this difficult time.
