Donald L. Wedding

Don Wedding, a faithful Catholic, 90, left this world on January 14, 2023, with his children at his side. He was a loving and blessed man. Surviving Don are his three caring children: Don (Gloria) Wedding, Cathy (Bryan) Norman and Christy (Jim) Bauer as well as his grandchildren, Christopher (Brianna) Wedding, Valerie (Taylor) Morrow, Eric (Kalie) Wedding, Chelsea (Christopher) Barrett, Danielle (Alex) Mitchell, Hadley Bauer, and Addison Bauer and a brother-in-law, Tom Stocker. He also has eight great-grandchildren. Don’s family was the heart of his life. He loved them all very much. He was preceded in death by his amazing wife of 54 years, Patricia Wedding, in 2011. Also preceding Don were brothers Bill, Bob, Gene, and sister, Janice Wedding. Born December 14, 1932, to Edward and Elizabeth Wedding, Don soon started school at St. Joseph. He cherished memories there as an altar boy and member of the choir, boy scouts, orchestra, and football team. He graduated from Memorial High School while working at a grocery store and participating in the band as a drummer. With the Korean War in progress, Don was accepted into air school. Upon graduation, he was assigned to a top-secret Naval Air Station in the desert, China Lake. He was a Banshee plane captain who once flew with astronaut Wally Schirra. After finishing his time with the Navy, Don returned to Evansville and attended Evansville College while working. He also continued his lifelong hobby of playing drums in regional bands where he met several famous musicians. Don was very active with Knights of Columbus, Sportsman’s Club, USI Varsity Club, Resurrection Church, bowling leagues, the American Chemical Society, National Geographic Society, and American Legion. Mead Johnson/Bristol Myers is where Don was primarily employed as a research scientist, and he retired after 35 years. He loved to vacation with his family and traveled to the southwest many times to fly planes as well as occasionally trying his luck in Las Vegas. He loved the Gulf Coast and visited there almost annually, and one year even adventured a trip to central Europe. The funeral will be at Resurrection Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 18, at 10:30 with visitation there beginning at 9:00. Father Jerry Pratt will be presiding. Military honors following at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions would benefit Resurrection Catholic Church or Heart to Heart Hospice.
