Doris M Rutledge

Doris M. Rutledge, 85, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Deaconess Hospital Gateway Campus surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 28, 1938 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Henry and Mathilda (Ebert) Herrenbruck. Doris was a graduate of FJ Reitz High School, Class of 1956 and a lifelong west sider. She was a bookkeeper at George Koch and Sons and Koch Originals for many years until she retired to spend more time with her family, and most importantly, be a vital part of her grandchildren’s lives. Doris was a strong Christian and a charter member of The Turning Pointe Church. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for several years and was passionate about digging deeper into the Bible with likeminded Christian women. Doris cherished her family and friends deeply. To know her was to love her. She was a loving mother to her two sons and spent the last 28 years of her life being a devoted grandma to her 4 grandchildren who adore her very much. She will be remembered forever for her heart of gold and living her life being the hands and feet of Jesus. Doris is survived by her loving family; sons Chris (Gretchen) Rutledge and Kevin Leroy Rutledge, both of Evansville and grandchildren, Anna (Thomas) Holmes, Samuel (Sarah) Rutledge, Emily (Forrest) Howard and Annie (Calvin) Brinton. Also surviving are a special niece, Janie Thomas, many other nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Fred L. Rutledge, Jr in 2022, a precious reunion her family only wishes they could have witnessed. In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by brothers, Kenneth Herrenbruck and Carroll Herrenbruck. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. Funeral services for Doris will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Scott Cassell officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Her family would like to offer a special thanks to all of Doris’ Nurses and Doctors, including, Dr. Gordon Brown, Dr. Leslie Brown, Dr. Peter Juran, and her favorite nurse, Melissa from Horizon Health, all of whom took such great care of her over the last few years.
