Dorothy Mae Martin

Dorothy Mae (Spahn) Martin, 95, of Cynthiana, IN passed away Sunday, September 03, 2017 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. Dorothy was born on February 5, 1922 to John and Lena (Koch) Spahn. She was a lifetime member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Auxiliary, the Ladies Club and the Quilters Club all at St. Wendel Parish. She enjoyed cooking meals for her family, gardening, especially flowers, quilting and sewing. She loved having her family together especially for the holidays. She was a homemaker and helped in running the family farm for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Jane Ann (Howard) Kiefer of Cynthiana, and Mary Ruth (Daniel) Lasher of Evansville; four sons, Stephen (Doris Ann) Martin and Harry (Margaret) Martin, all of Haubstadt, Father David Martin and Mark (Debi) Martin all of Cynthiana. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, Alan, Thomas and Ryan Martin, Audrey Schmittler, Gregory and Glen Martin, Annette McNair, Justin and Aaron Martin, Tarah Riley, Leah Davis, Melissa Willis, Jessica Kiefer, John and Matthew Kiefer, Jennifer Seib and Benjamin Lasher and Isaac Martin, thirty-one great-grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Martin of Cynthiana. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 68 years, William Martin in 2009, her son, Roger J. Martin in 2003, her brothers and sisters: David, Olivia, Florentine, Joseph, John, Lawrence, Mary Ermalinda, Martha and Raymond. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, concelebrated by her son, Rev. David Martin and Rev. Edward Schnur. Burial will follow in St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 A.M. until service time Thursday at St. Wendel Catholic Church. A prayer service by St. Wendel Catholic Church will begin at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home. The family would like to express special thanks to Mom’s caretaker, Louise Seib, and for help from Kathy Dosher and Delores Hasenour. The family is grateful for the care given our mother by Dr. William Tortoriello “Dr. T” and his staff.
