Dr. Duane F. Morrow

Dr. Duane F. Morrow, 84, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. Duane was born June 23, 1933 in Detroit, MI, where he was raised and educated. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University in 1954, studying under Dr. Calvin L. Stevens. He then attended the University of Illinois, receiving his Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry in 1957 while studying under Dr. Nelson J. Leonard. Duane began work in the Endocrinology Department of Parke-Davis in Detroit in 1957. He became very interested in the field of anti-fertility and specialized in this area at Parke-Davis for twelve years. He then moved to the laboratories of Mead Johnson and Company in Evansville in 1969, to serve there as a group leader in anti-fertility. He eventually served as a section leader in the Chemistry Department, then as Associate Director in the Product Development Department and later as Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs. Duane retired from the company (now known as Bristol-Myers Squibb after several mergers) in June of 1992. At the time of his retirement Duane was the Acting Director of Regulatory Affairs for the Pharmaceutical Marketed Product Division. He is the author of eighteen papers published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as two chapters in books, and is the holder of eleven U.S. patents, as well as several patents from foreign countries. Duane served as a docent in the Education Department of Mesker Zoo and Botanic Garden since 1986 and has been a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League since 1971. He contributed his teaching and writing works to both organizations for many years. He is very pleased that his world travels over the past years have managed to take him to all seven continents and to 59 foreign countries. Surviving Duane are his wife of 33 years, Donna (Kasbohm) Morrow (well known throughout the city for her cooking and gardening skills); sons, Brian (Ginny Robinson) Morrow, Michael (Shannon) Morrow and Patrick (Donna Shipton) Morrow; bonus children, Mick (Karen) Schnell and Kim (Perry) Nunamaker; one sister, Carrie (Bob) Zetterberg; grandchildren, Brad Davis, Zach Schnell, Zoee (Drew) Miles, Sean Morrow, Brett Morrow and Riley Morrow as well as two great grandchildren, Colyn Schnell and Kimma Davis. Funeral services for Duane will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Bessie Adams officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 P.M. until service time on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
