Elmer Schapker

Elmer P. Schapker, age 82, of Evansville passed away at home August 13, 2011 surrounded by his family. Mr. Schapker had worked as a truck driver for Double Cola for 37 years. Elmer was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post #1114. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County and the St. Joe Men’s Club. Elmer enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn on his John Deere tractor and was a fan of both the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR. Elmer is survived by his wife, with whom he would have celebrated 59 years of marriage in October, Charlotte (Niemeier) Schapker; three daughters, Jane Mossberger, Julie (Terry) Fehrenbacher and Ann (Steve) Southwell, all of Evansville; five sons, Stan (Judy) Schapker of Martin Station, IN, Alan (Sheila) Schapker of Wadesville, Douglas (Wendy) Schapker, Kurt (Cheryl) Schapker and Roger (Ann) Schapker, all of Evansville; six sisters, Malinda Paul of Folsomville, IN, Leona Englert of Evansville, Mary Lee Doremeier of Belleville, IL, Betty (Frank) Will, Laurie (Harold) Steckler and Irma (Martin) Will, all of Evansville and two brothers, Merl (Pat) Schapker and Ray (Charlene) Schapker, both of Evansville. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Staci (Chad) Burleigh, Brandon (Kerri) Fehrenbacher, Paul (Beth) Fehrenbacher, Jason Southwell, Brooke Southwell, Daltyn Schapker, Lesley Schapker, Austin, Nolan and Taylor Schapker and two great grandchildren, Colin and Carter Burleigh. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Olivia (Happe) Schapker, his sister, Mildred Schapker and three brothers, Melvin, Norman and Francis Schapker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at the church.
