Ervin O. Lamble

Ervin Oscar Lamble was born to a father who was a second generation American and a mother who was a first generation American over 92 years ago. They settled in Evansville, Indiana, to live a better life and raise a large Catholic family steeped in family values. His father, Joseph Lamble, was a son of a French immigrant father and a Swiss immigrant mother, and his mother, Effie Reiter Lamble, was an Austrian immigrant. He was third child born to his parents. He was born on August 14, 1915, and his siblings were Joseph, Leo, Anton, Marie, Margaret, Odelia, and Virginia Lamble. His father died during the Depression when Ervin was sixteen years old, and he went to work to help support his mother and his younger sisters. His mother lived until 1950. He married his only sweetheart, Margaret Wingert, on January 29, 1937 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. They had nine children and were married for 66 years. Their family grew to 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Ervin and Margaret were faithful members of St. Boniface, Sacred Heart, and Resurrection Catholic Churches. They celebrated their 50th and 65th Wedding Anniversaries at Resurrection with their large family and friends. He worked at Crescent Stove Works which eventually became Bootz Manufactory Co. for 46 years. He retired after working as their plant superintendent. Ervin was active before and after retirement with Boy Scout Troops 98 and 399. He helped several of his sons and grandsons work toward their Eagle Scout awards. He was a familiar face during scout activities and received awards himself. He was taught to fish by his father, and he continued to share his favorite life long sport with his family and friends. Fish Fries were special family celebrations. His children include: Deanna (William) Cain, Steven (Linda) Lamble, Frank (Barbara) Lamble, Carolyn Lamble-Cooper, Barbara Lamble, Frederick (Carolyn) Lamble, Harold (Deborah) Lamble, Jonelle (David) Topper, and Beth (Martin) Graham. His wife, Margaret, preceded him in death in 2003; as well as, his daughter-in-law, Mary Lee (Schmitt) Lamble and son-in-law, Bill Cooper. Beside his parents, Joseph and Effie Lamble; his brothers: Joseph, Anton, and Leo; and sisters: Marie, Margaret, and Odelia have preceded him in death. Ervin died on March 25, 2008. His grandchildren include: Lynn (Jerome) Herr and children: Meredith, Mitchel, Maxwell, and McKenna; Christine (Joseph) Teghtmeyer and children: Margaret, Grace, and Henry; Ellen (Gerald) Venderley and children: Hannah and Nicholas; William Cain, Jr.; Jennifer (Ty) Stauffer and children: Rainesford, Lucas, Matthew, and Anne; Mark (Debbie) Lamble and children: Derek and Kyle; Theresa (Joseph) Berendes and children: Adam, Laura, Jack, and Lance; Rick (Jenny) Lamble and child, Emma; Joshua Lamble; Jessica Lamble and son, Joseph McQueary; Christopher Lamble; Joseph (Lori) Lamble; Ashley (Matthew) Willett; Steven (Michelle) Lamble and child, Reagan; Meaghan Topper; Molly Topper; Alex Topper; Patrick (Angela) Lamble; Christopher Graham; and Claire Graham. Ervin is also survived by a sister, Virginia Hodgson, a sister-in-law, Katherine (Donald) Mueller, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services for Ervin will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 28, 2008 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rev. Phil Kreilein officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where a memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 until service time Friday at the church. Beside prayers and Mass intentions, the Lamble family requests remembrances of donations to Resurrection Catholic Church and the VNA Hospice Program.
