Mrs. Evelyn M Meisler

Evelyn M (Deig) Meisler, age 84, of Evansville, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital Main Campus, surrounded by her family. Evelyn, along with her husband Bill, founded Meisler Cartage in 1963 in the basement of their home with just one truck. From those humble beginnings, and with the help of their two sons, they grew the one company into two, Meisler Trailer Rentals and Walt’s Drive-A-Way service. Only in the last couple of years did she truly retire from the business, you always knew where to find her on the first of the month – as she would say “we need to get those statements out”. Evelyn was also active in the Vanderburgh County Young Republicans and had worked in the Vanderburgh County Treasurer’s Office. She was a member of the VFW Post #1114 Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Riverbend Association. Evelyn enjoyed cross stitching, watching Football (Peyton Manning and her team the Green Bay Packers), playing Candy Crush on her Ipad and putting together puzzles. She also loved playing slot machines, cards and scratching off lottery tickets – luck always seemed to follow her. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and seeing her great-grandchildren. Surviving Evelyn are her two sons, Ronald (Janetta Travis) Meisler and Donald (Janet) Meisler, both of Evansville; four grandchildren, Shelley (Brian) Meisler Stratman, Mindy (Nic) Sagez, Kelley (Curt) Meisler Begle and Shelby Meisler and four great grandchildren, Cam Stratman, Crue Begle, Lyra Sagez and Berkeley Sagez. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Meisler in September of 2013; three sisters, Olivia Faught, Pauline Titzer and Helen Pfiester and a brother, George Deig. Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Darrel Rice officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville Fire Department Pipe and Drum Corps or to the Evansville Fire Department Local #357 Honor Guard, both at 550 SE 8th Street, Evansville, IN 47711.
