Florence G. Wannemuehler

Florence G. (Schenk) Wannemuehler, 85, of Evansville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. Florence was born on November 24, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late Edward and Margaret (Relleke) Schenk. She was a devoted member of St. Philip Catholic Church her entire life; serving on several committees, volunteering at many church functions, singing in the church choir and making quilts for the church to raffle. For their service to the church, Florence and her late husband Joseph were inducted into the Brute Society of the Diocese of Evansville. She loved to serve others, including volunteering at the Ozanam Family Shelter and at St. Philip Catholic School. Surviving Florence are five daughters, Jan McReynolds, Carol (Dennis) Seibert, Mary Kay Arvin, Ann (Michael) Schapker and Kathleen Wannemuehler; five sons, Gene (Eveline) Wannemuehler, Matt (Pam) Wannemuehler, John Wannemuehler, David (Buffy) Wannemuehler and Tom (Mindy) Wannemuehler; two sisters, Edith (John) Hagan and Pauline Fluty; a brother, Richard Schenk, twenty six grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joseph Wannemuehler in 1997; by two sisters, Loretta Fischer and Dorothy Corressell and by a brother, Raymond Schenk. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Claude Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Philip Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a rosary led by the family at 3:30 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Friday at St. Philip Catholic Church. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Donna Rhodes for the personal care she provided for the last six months of Florence’s life, as well as to Heritage Hospice, especially her nurse Cassie, for their care and support.
