Francis F. Spahn

Francis F. Spahn, 86, of Evansville, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at his home. Francis was born April 6, 1937 in Evansville to the late John Martin and Rose S. (Goedde) Spahn. He farmed most of his life and also worked as a driver for Emge Packing, Ruan Trucking and later retired from Lanter Trucking. After retiring he worked part-time for Blankenberger Bros. Francis served in the United States Army as a military police officer stationed in Heidelberg, Germany and was selected to serve on the Honor Guard. He was a longtime, dedicated member of St. Wendel Catholic Church and was inducted into the Brute` Society of the Diocese of Evansville for his service to the church. Francis enjoyed riding his bike, spending time with his grandchildren and attending sporting events. Surviving Francis are his wife of 60 years, Hilda (Elpers) Spahn; daughters, Lisa (Eric) Holzmeyer, Vicki (Scott) Wunderlich, Melissa (Kiley) Van Bibber and Jill (Mike) Moser; one son, Steve (Keri) Spahn; sisters, Marylene (Larry) Hunt and Virginia Miles; brothers, Eugene (Janet) Spahn and Tony (Doretha) Spahn; two sisters-in-law, Mary Spahn and Pat Spahn; twenty grandchildren, Devin (Lyndsey), Sadie, Jared and Riley Holzmeyer, Ashlynn (Zachary) Bingman, Ali, Alaina and Adleigh Spahn, Logan, Dawson, Mason and Kiersten Wunderlich, Jacob, Ryan, Emma and Drew Van Bibber, Lucas, Ella and Max Johnson and Gretchen Moser. In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick and Edgar Spahn; by an infant daughter, Lori Ann Spahn and by a grandson, Seth Wunderlich. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time at St. Wendel Church, 10542 W.
