Gary Wayne "GW" Jordan

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gary Wayne “G.W.” Jordan, 78, of Henderson, Kentucky, formerly of Evansville, who passed on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his home under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice after a battle with Parkinson’s. Born on November 6, 1947, in Evansville to the late Delbert King “D.K.” and Margrett (Gibbs) Jordan, he was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in German Township. He was a 1965 graduate of FJ Reitz High School on the wrestling team winning the first state title for the school. During his senior year at Reitz, Gary, along with his double cousin Randy Gibbs enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967 and awarded the Purple Heart by Gen. William Westmoreland for injuries suffered during his service. Gary was an insulator joining Local 37 in 1969, in 1985 he was one of the co-founders of Gribbins Insulation LLC where he retired in 2021. Gary loved anything with a motor. He owned many cars and boats during his lifetime, especially Corvettes. He loved hearing the roar of an engine and working on cars, especially restoring his 1965 Big Block Corvette from the frame up and loved boating on Kentucky Lake. He also enjoyed spending winters in Ft. Myers, Florida with his wife Charlene and more recently in Destin, Florida with Charlene and his brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Barbara Jordan. GW loved sports and stayed very active. He was a 68-year member of the YMCA. He and Charlene would run 3-5 five miles every morning before work, completing 5 mini-marathons together. He played softball, basketball, racquetball and pickleball but his favorite game to watch was football he could tell you about every play and followed the Indianapolis Colts. He found great pleasure watching his grandkids play sports. GW was known for his shenanigans and stories making great friends along the way. He was always on time but never stayed for long and whatever he was doing he gave 110%. Preceding his death are his parents and Randy Gibbs. Surviving GW are his wife of 23 years, Charlene (Mattingly) Jordan; daughter, Patti Cosby (David); sister, Linda Jung (Ralph); brother Rick Jordan (Barbara); stepsons, Brian Willett (Kelly); Chris Stone (Laura) and Mark Stone (Stephanie); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene and Parvin Latta; grandchildren, David Gary, Jordan, Sydni, Brock and Brooke Cosby, Taylor and Talan Willett, Adelyn, William, Sophiann, Abel Stone and Landon Chandley, and eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews along with his lifelong Reitz high school friends and his fur baby, CoCo Chanel Funeral services for GW will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Pierre Funeral Home, Pastor David Clifford officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until service time on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
