Harold Joseph Orth

Harold Joseph “Jake” Orth, 82, of St. Wendel, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 22, 2023 surrounded by family. Jake was born on January 10, 1941 in St. Wendel, Indiana, to the late Jacob and Louise (Rexing) Orth. He served as a specialist in the United States Army for three years and then was discharged into the Army Reserves. In 1962, he married the love of his life, Betty Schultheis. In 1963, they moved to Texas where he worked at Manesco Manufacturing Company which specialized in the development and manufacturing of aircraft landing gear. He and his wife, Betty, owned and operated Majestic Tool, Inc. for 40 years, where he designed and built specialized machinery. Jake was a life-long member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, and was a member of the Knights of St. John and Armstrong Recreational Center. He served on the Board of Directors for the German Township Fire Department. Jake enjoyed fishing and spending time on the White River and at one time he built and raced his own stock cars. Surviving Jake are his wife of 61 years, Betty (Schultheis) Orth; daughters, Kelly (Mike) Mitchell and Lorie (Jim) Mercer; a son, Chris Orth; sisters, Imogene Fehrenbacher and Shirley Wade Holloman; grandchildren, Jamie (Jennifer Thomason) Kennedy, Zachary Addison, Tyler (Tammi) Mitchell, Brandi Cunningham, Jessica Kennedy, Brody (Ashley) Mitchell, Baily (Mikelle) Mitchell, Brandon Mercer, Jacob Mercer and D’Romeo (Jaslyn) Cunningham and great grandchildren, Donavon Cunningham, Jaliyan Cunningham, Kenzie Kennedy, Willem Mitchell, Drayden Cunningham, Hazel Mitchell, Camden Mercer, Matthew Mercer, Zayla Cunningham, Zendaya Cunningham, Gabriel Mitchell and Reagan Mitchell. In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by sisters, Angela Marx and Erlene Peak and by a great granddaughter, Dalilah Hammers. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2023 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at St. Wendel Catholic Church, 10542 W. Boonville New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720. Memorial contributions may be made to the German Township or Scott Township Fire Departments.
