Helen Tornatta

Helen Metzger Pike Tornatta, age 97, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville. Helen was born March 3, 1915 to the late Henry and Maude (Bates) Metzger in Boonville, IN. Helen married Bernard A. Pike in 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1962. In 1970, she married Harold Tornatta who preceded her in 1980. Helen was an active traveler, enjoyed fishing, dancing and was a Clabber Club member for twenty years. She served as a Girl Scout leader and den mother and was a member of both the VFW #1114 Ladies Auxiliary and the Legion of Mary. Helen was the co-owner of Superior Mattress Corporation and drove a school bus for the EVSC for eight years. Surviving Helen are her children, Carolyn (Frank) Price of Decatur, AL, Bernard (Vicki) Pike, II of Portland, TN and Larry (Susie) Pike of Carmel, IN; son-in-law, Jim (Bonnie) McDonough of Hanover, IN; stepchildren, Paul (Helen) Tornatta of Kissimmee, FL, David Tornatta of Kansas City, MO, and Mark (Jeanne) Tornatta, DDS of Evansville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) McDonough, Tim (Margie) McDonough, Dennis (Barbara) McDonough, Frank (Charlotte Rich) Price, III, Edward (Diana) Price, Dr. Scott (Kristin) Pike, Ryan Pike, Bernard (Jennifer) Pike, III and Tasha (William) Collinsworth; step grandchildren, Chris (Jen) Tornatta, Jennifer (Andy) Berry and Sarah (Matt) Hayes; seven great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and many caring nieces and nephews. Helen was also preceded by a daughter, Dixie McDonough in 1999; a granddaughter, Christina Pike; siblings, Clinton, Hank, Gene, Bill and Edward Metzger, Carrie Rice, Katherine Graham and Jane Seib and a stepson, Jim Tornatta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where a memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 P.M. Friends may also visit from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Woodmont Health Campus and staff for their care of Helen during her time there.
