James Kenneth Kercher

James Kenneth Kercher, 87, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. Kenneth was born December 15, 1930 in Evansville to the late John A. and Agnes (Nurrenbern) Kercher. He worked in the plastering business until 1958 when he took over his father’s farm. He continued to work on the farm until retiring in 1992. Kenneth was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and along with his wife Rose Mary, was inducted into the Brute Society of the Diocese of Evansville for his service to the church. Kenneth was a member of the Vanderburgh County Fair Board and was co-superintendent with his wife of the Rabbit Department of the 4H Fair for 40 years, retiring from that position in 2013. Kenneth and Rose Mary won the Rural Urban Award in 1993. Kenneth enjoyed farming, gardening, and woodworking and loved his 27 electric trains, which he had all running at the same time in his train room in the basement. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose Mary (Hausman) Kercher; two daughters, Susie (Bret) Dill and Judy (Bob) Erkman, both of Evansville; three sons, Dan (Patricia) Kercher and Thomas Kercher, both of Evansville and Fred (Michelle) Kercher of Wadesville; grandchildren, Brian (Aneili) Dill, Megan (Jimmie) Rowe, Brittany (Brian) Martin, Josh (Hillary) Erkman, Lisa (Jason) McEuen, Beth (Nolan) Schemel, Andy (Kelly) Kercher, John (Krista) Kercher, Mat Kercher, Emile Kercher, Kendra (Anthonie) Fisher and Jacob Kercher; great grandchildren, Logan, Taylor, Lilly, Sydney, Avery, Madelyn, Allison, Owen, Oliver, Kayden and Bridger, and another great grandchild due in August; one sister, Marlene Kercher of Evansville and many cousins. . In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by a grandchild, TJ Kercher and by a sister, Joann. There will be a Mass of Christian burial held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rev. John Brosmer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at St. Agnes Church, 1600 Glendale Ave. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Rusche, Tammy and Nicole of Kindred Hospice for all of the loving care given to our Dad during his illness.
