Katherine E. Masterson

Katherine E. Masterson, 87, of Newburgh, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Deaconess Hospital Gateway Campus. Katherine was born March 28, 1932 in Oak Grove, KY to the late John and Irene (Simpson) Nelson. Katherine was a bindery worker for both Krieger Ragsdale and Creative Press and a former member of Keck Avenue Baptist Church. She retired from Creative Press in 1995. Katherine enjoyed traveling; she and her husband Arthur traveled extensively to Paris, Alaska, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, many cruises among so many other places. They enjoyed spending their retirement years at Lake Barkley, where they entertained many guests and family at their home on the lake. They enjoyed fishing, boating, water skiing, teaching their grandchildren to ski and watching the beautiful sunsets over the lake. In 2014, Katherine and Arthur moved back to Evansville and Katherine lost her precious husband Arthur on December 14, 2015. In more recent years, Katherine enjoyed her exercise group at Zion Church and taking part in the activities at Park Place where she lived. She enjoyed having her siblings over on Tuesdays for a great game of clabber, an Sunday with her children and their families. She never missed a family function. She will be greatly missed!! Surviving Katherine are her daughter, Kathy (Bill) Woods of Newburgh; two sons, Steven Ray (Dale) Masterson and Lonnie “Keith” (Debbie) Masterson, both of Evansville; sisters, Peggy Schley, Chris Smith and Vickie (Rick) Jackson and a brother, John (Jeannie) Nelson, all of Evansville. Also surviving Katherine are grandchildren, Tracy Baker, Misty Dawn (Tim) Payne, Kristopher (Amy) Baker, Chad (Kelly) Woods, Brandon Masterson, Ashley Masterson, Jeannie Rae Masterson and Christine Masterson and eleven great grandchildren, Keaton Baker, Kyla and Riley Baker, Dax and Izak Woods, Cori and Tori Pendleton, Michael and Jalynn Duggins, Bryce and Mary Katheryn Payne. In addition to her parents and her husband Arthur, Katherine was preceded in death by her sister Thelma Grimm. Funeral services for Katherine will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Pierre Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kurt Bottles, Deaconess Gateway ICU staff, nurses, Shelly, Sarah “Huck” and especially Pablo for all of their kind, loving and compassionate care.
