Larry O. Lewis

Larry O. Lewis, 79, of rural Evansville, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Larry was a devoted family man and beloved community member. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Larry was born on April 16, 1946. He was a 1964 graduate of FJ Reitz High School. He went on to live a life defined by service, leadership, and love for his family and community. Larry proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany. Following his military service, he became a leader in his profession, serving as co-owner of Midwest Roofing and Sheet Metal and the President of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractor’s Association (SMACNA). His commitment to education and community was evident through his 24 years of dedicated service on the MSD North Posey School Board. A man of great faith, Larry was an active member of and past president of the Zion Lippe Church Council. He was also a member of the Robinson Township Conservation Club. Larry loved spending time with his family and was their greatest supporter, rarely missing a game or event for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Known for his talents as a handyman, there was little he couldn’t fix. He found joy in the simple things – especially his tradition of mowing the lawn every Friday, something he took great pride in. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Margaret “Peggy” Lewis and by brothers, Charlie, Kent and Tony Lewis. Surviving Larry are his wife of 56 years, Nancy (Krietenstein) Lewis; his loving children, Scott Lewis, Stacy (Brian) Maurer and Shannon (Jeff) Vandagriff; his cherished grandchildren, Kyle (Kenzie) Swope, Erika (Clay) Everett, Sydney (Cam) O’Brian, Elise, Madelyn and Bryce and his adored great grandchildren, Raelyn, Lilly and Ava. He is also survived by siblings Vi (Jim) Fuller, Myra Pickett, Lora (Ray) Bingman, Peggy Bray, Ray Lewis, Danny (Teresa) Lewis, Mark Lewis and Roger Lewis and his dear in-laws, Marvin and Ruth Redman, many nieces and nephews. Larry’s legacy is one of service, love, and quiet strength. His life was an example of dedication to his country, his community, his work and above all, his family. Funeral services for Larry will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Zion Lippe UCC, Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will take place in the Zion Lippe Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:00 AM until service time on Monday at Zion Lippe UCC, 9000 Copperline Road, E, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620.
