Larry E. Lutz

Larry Edward Lutz, 83, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus. Larry was born October 26, 1938 in Evansville to the late Edward G. and Bertha (Eberhardt) Lutz. Larry was a 1956 graduate of Mater Dei High School and attended the University of Southern Indiana. Larry served in the United States Army and for twenty-three years on the Evansville Fire Department, reaching the ranks of Lieutenant, Inspector and District Chief. He received the Firefighter of the Year award in 1980. Larry was also the Past President of Fire Fighters Local 357; served two terms as the state president of the Indiana Firefighters Association; four years as Perry Township Assessor, vice president of the Indiana Assessors Association; sixteen years as a Indiana State Representative for District 76 and eight years as an Indiana State Senator for District 49. Larry was also a member of FOP Lodge 73, a life member of American Legion Funkhouser Post 8, the Retired Police and Fire Fighters Association, Retired Public Employees Association, Fire Fighters Local 357, the International Firefighters Association, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Owls, Riverbend Association, life member of Amvets Local 84, Association of Retired Legislators and the Indiana Sheriff’s Association. Larry was also a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Knights of St. John. Surviving Larry are his wife of 60 years, Mary (Toelle) Lutz; a son and daughter in law, Christopher Edward and Cynthia Lutz; grandson, Jonathan Lutz and a niece and her husband, Cinda and Lowell Krieg. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Lutz Lawhead and by nephews, Steven and Mark Lawhead. Funeral services for Larry will held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Lowell Will officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evansville Fire Fighters Local 357 Honor Guard, 550 SE 8th Street, Evansville, IN 47713.
