Larry Gene Riley

Larry G. Riley, 79, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away peacefully at his home on April 18, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born April 3,1944 in Paducah, KY to the late Belvin Eugene Riley and Elizabeth Laverne (Sample) Pilant. Larry grew up enjoying the rodeo. He also enjoyed boating and camping with his family. Every summer you would find him at their river camp or on the water. He was a member of the OBC, Small Craft Boat Club, Twin Towers and Riverbend. Larry enjoyed watching NASCAR and detailing cars. He worked as a route driver for Dolly Madison and Archway, and retired from Airgas in 2018. Larry loved doing his routes and being able to talk to all of his customers, he never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Elaine (Fisher) Riley, his children Larry Michael (Melissa) Riley, Jamie (Dave) Woods, Jack (Tiffany) Kerney, David Kerney, Karen Berning, and Susan Wargel. Also surviving Larry are 15 grandchildren, Stephanie Conger, Craig (Jenn) Tabor, Nicole (Jonathan) Koring, Christopher Payne, Steven (Kelsey) Payne, Kala (Justin) Perry, Kristin (Trevor) Ray, Keela Kerney, Sean (Samantha) Kerney, Brittnie (Stephen) Riley-Haynes, Kaleb Dosher (Parker Gross), Abigail Dosher, Allyson Woods, Kyle Woods and Brianna Woods and 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers Dale Pilant and Danny (Jenna) Pilant both of Kentucky; 22 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by three sisters, infant Sherry Riley, Brenda Lane and Kathy Norman. Funeral services for Larry will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Chandler, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
