Laurie Hammers Persinger

Laurie Hammers-Persinger, age 63, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. Laurie was born on March 22, 1963, in Evansville. She was a proud graduate of FJ Reitz High School, Class of 1981. Laurie lived a life full of joy, generosity, and a deep connection to those around her. Laurie was a proud member of the Order of the Owls and had a passion for life that was contagious. She loved “betting on the ponies”, playing cards, and most of all, bringing people together. Whether hosting holidays or gathering with friends, Laurie was the life of every party. She was known for her radiant smile and welcoming spirit. Laurie never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her generous heart and desire to make others happy left a lasting impact on all who crossed her path. Surviving Laurie are her husband, William “Bill” Persinger, her daughter and son-in-law, Arley and David Wilmes, and her cherished grandchildren, Malcolm and Millie Wilmes. She also leaves behind her mother, Lorine (Bauer) Hammers; two brothers, Michael Hammers and Brian Maharg and his wife, Kris; two stepsons and their wives, Brent and Rachel Persinger and Brandon and Sydney Persinger, and her beloved step grandchildren, Aubrie, Eli, Shaylin, Braylin, Hannah, Karson and Damien. Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Urban “Bud” Hammers. Funeral services for Laurie will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Pierre Funeral Home, Derrick DeBow officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. Laurie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Shuman, Katie Lawless, NP and their entire team, as well as the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, especially nurses Ashleigh, Amanda, Jenny, and Jack for the compassionate care and support they provided throughout her battle.
