Lois Hardin

Lois (Willey) Hardin, 84, formerly of Evansville, passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 in Indianapolis with her family. A graduate of Reitz High School, Lois grew up and lived on the west side of Evansville before relocating to Carmel, Indiana to be near family. Lois was born August 14, 1935 in Evansville to the late Harold and Mary (Savage) Willey. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Lois will always be remembered for her quick smile, sense of humor, friendly manner, and her love for family, friends, and everyone around her. Lois was a long-time member of the Twelfth Avenue General Baptist Church and Westwood General Baptist Church; where she was a member of the Evergreen Missionary Society. She belonged to the Novelty Salt & Pepper Shaker Club and was an active volunteer with the Tri-State Navy Mothers Club. She was also a volunteer at Mesker Park Zoo. She enjoyed birdwatching, taking pictures, working in the yard, tending to flowers and plants, and collecting salt & pepper shakers and post cards. Other hobbies included traveling with family, puzzling and crafting, and teaching at Bible School. For many years, she was known as the “Popcorn Lady” at Helfrich Park School. Lois is survived by brother, Robert Willey of St. Louis, MO; son, Richard (Ann) Hardin of Zionsville, IN; daughter, Greta (Mark) Carroll of Carmel, IN; daughter, Dianne (Denny) Archer of Bradenton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Emily Hardin, Hilary (Tyler) Turchan, Hannah Carroll, John Carroll, Allison (Matthew) Sterner, and Bill Archer; great-grandchildren, Grace Turchan, Ruth Sterner, and Sam Sterner; nephew Kyle (Jenny) Willey; great-nephew “KJ” Willey, and great-niece Ava Willey. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Cletus Hardin, in 2011. Her family appreciates the friendship, prayers and well-wishes of friends; and the caregiving provided by the loving staff at Forum at the Crossing, Indianapolis. Funeral services for Lois will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. John Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday and from 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
