Magdalen Weinzapfel

Magdalen “Lena” (Wannemuehler) Weinzapfel, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, just a few hours before her 101st birthday. Lena was a homemaker a lifelong member of St. Philip Catholic Church. She was active in the St. Philip Ladies’ Club and the St. Philip Quilter’s Group. In 1996, Lena received the Brute` Award from the Evansville Diocese for dedicated service to the church. Surviving Lena are three daughters, Sister Agnes Weinzapfel, O.S.B. of Ferdinand, IN, Esther (Mike) Stofleth and Dorothy Weinzapfel, both of St. Philip; three sons, Harold (Roselle) Weinzapfel and Ralph (Sylvia) Weinzapfel, both of St. Philip and Wilfred (Betty) Weinzapfel of Jasper, IN. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, Stan (Tami) Weinzapfel, Connie Weinzapfel, Marianna (Kenny) Kassenbrock, Laurie (Phil Schmitt) Weinzapfel, Johanna (Luke) Huls, Jonathan (Patricia) Weinzapfel, Joe (Cecelia) Weinzapfel, Andrew (Holly) Weinzapfel, Steve (Lisa) Weinzapfel, Gary (Cindy) Weinzapfel, Paul (Kerri) Weinzapfel, Matt (Shelly) Weinzapfel, Cindy (Gene) Seidl, Christan (Steve) Shockley, Anne (David) Martin, Beth (Michael) Mohr, John (Caron) Stofleth, Joshua (Jennifer) Scheller, Gretchen (Joe) Kellams, Stephanie Scheller; 42 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Weinzapfel in 1979; a daughter, Mary Catherine Weinzapfel; her parents, Theodore and Frances (Steinkamp) Wannemuehler, two sisters, Otillia Folz and Mary Wildemann and six brothers, Clem, Henry, Joe, Ted, Frank and Ben Wannemuehler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 6, 2012 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Tom Kessler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:30 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 6:30 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Friday at the church.
