Marie Dolores Mann

Marie Dolores “Dee” Mann, of Evansville, Ind., passed away June 20, 2010, at The Heritage Nursing Center in Evansville. One of nine children, Dee was born on the Feast of All Saints, November 1, 1923, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Desire and Leda (LaBelle) Therrien. Dee contributed to the cause of winning World War II by working in the shipyards of Boston, MA, wiring ships, and it was during this time that she met her husband, Carl, on Valentine’s Day of 1943. They married in Lawrence on September 1, 1945, and eventually settled in Evansville where Carl had been raised in nearby Mt. Vernon, IN. A seamstress by trade, Dee created many original designs, which were enjoyed by those who commissioned her services over the years. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading, and stressed continuing education. Dee was a woman of great faith in Jesus. Her focus was in life with Him and in her family. She served the Church in many capacities, and taught her seven children to also do the same. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Dee is survived by her husband, Carl; daughters Susanne Walters (David) of North Port, FL; Michelle Tenbarge (David) of Evansville, IN, and Melanie Holmes (Brad) of Ft. Branch, IN; sons Carl W. Mann II (Merlene) of Newburgh, IN; Kimberly Mann (Diane) of Worcester, MA; Fr. Gordon Mann of Washington, IN; and Miles Mann (Andrea) of Evansville; twelve grandchildren, Carl W. Mann III (Kim), Clinton Mann (Paula) David Tenbarge, Elizabeth Harvey (Clayton), Barbara Mann, Leda Ruppel, Ryan Tenbarge, Lindsay Mann, Drake Ruppel, William Mann, Daniel Mann, and Jackson Mann; and great-grandchildren Isaac Mann, Sydney Mann, and Savanna Mann, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Dee in death were her parents and all of her eight brothers and sisters. Dee’s family wishes to thank her doctors and nurses who helped her in her illnesses, and the Holy Spirit Legion of Mary, particularly Jan Madding and Pat Mahoney, who gave Dee great consolation and care on a daily basis during the last months of her life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:00 A.M., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with her son, Fr. Gordon Mann officiating. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum in Evansville, IN. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 Lodge Avenue, Evansville, IN., where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Special thanks to the Heritage Center and Heritage Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Dee during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Washington Catholic Education Endowment in Washington, IN, the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Capital Campaign, the American Cancer Society, or the National Alzheimer’s Foundation.
