Mildred M Schmitt

Mildred M. “Millie” (Martin) Schmitt, 93, of Wadesville, passed away Tuesday, May 02, 2017 at the West River Health Campus surrounded by her family. Mildred was born July 24, 1923 in Vanderburgh County, IN to the late Henry and Mary (Reising) Martin. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family, cooking and gardening. Mildred was a life member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, the St. Wendel Ladies Sodality and the St. Ann’s Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John. Surviving Mildred are her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Egli of Wadesville; four sons, Larry (Melody) Schmitt of Evansville, Bob (Suzy) Schmitt, Glenn (Brenda) Schmitt and Bruce Schmitt, all of Wadesville; twelve grandchildren, Michael (Angela) Schmitt, Allison Gauer, Erick (Amy) Schmitt, Jared (Christy) Schmitt, Laura (Ben) Phelps, Kristi (Terry) Chanley, Kevin (Sara) Schmitt, Kurt (Kara) Schmitt, Megan (Tyler) Taylor and Jamie (Austin) Peck; twenty one great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clarence Schmitt in 2009; by grandchildren, Amy and Gregory Schmitt; five sisters, Aileen Mayer, Antoinette Brandt, Leona Mayer, Julianne Bittner and Elnora Wagner and by four brothers, Victor Martin, Wilford Martin, Clarence Martin and Edwin Martin. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Friday at St. Wendel Catholic Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mildred’s dear friend, Barb Schaefer and the many nurses and staff at West River Health Campus and Deaconess VNA Plus Hospice for their excellent care.
