Richard Fischer

Richard Jerome “Dick” Fischer, born July 19, 1926, of Mount Vernon, IN passed away Saturday July 25, 2009 at his home. Dick was raised on a farm in Posey County and was a home builder and Master Woodworker for over 50 years. He played professional baseball for the Boston Braves Organization; was a member of the St. Philip’s Men’s Club, Knights of St. John, The Bruté Society and an active member and volunteer at St. Philip’s Church. Dick is preceded in death by Loretta (Schenk) Fischer, his first wife of 51 years; a son Mark and grand-daughter Jill Fischer; parents John A and Florence (Neff) Fischer and siblings John R., Frank and Dorothy Fischer. Dick is survived by his present wife of 7 years, Jeanne (Will) Fischer; daughters, Marienne (Harold) Hauschild, Jr. of Mt Vernon, IN; Catherine (Donald) Euler of Elberfeld, IN; sons Jim, Bob (Nancy), Stan (Angie), Ed (Laverne), Steve (Janet), and Richard J. (Sara) all of Evansville, IN; Joe (Donna) of Mt. Vernon, IN; Glenn (Brenda) of Beech Grove, IN and Patrick (Susan) of Lexington, KY, step-son Philip (Deborah) Will of Grunee, IL; step-daughter Alisha (Brete) Lottes of Evansville, IN, sisters Patricia (Jim) Norman of Mt. Vernon, IN, Mary Jean Martin of St. Wendel, IN; brother Bill (Ruby) Fischer of Corpus Christi, TX and sister-in-law Margaret (Bone) Fischer of Mt. Vernon, IN. Also surviving are grandchildren Stephanie, Melanie and Kathryn Hauschild, Daniel, Don Jr. and David Euler, Michael, Mitch, Jeff, Julie, Greg, Andy, Aimee, Jenna, Gary (Angie), Lorna, Phill, Paul, Matt, Beth, Abby, Nick, Nathan and Jessica Fischer; step-grandchildren Jordan Will, Adam Lottes and baby Lottes due in September; great grandchildren, Nolan, Collin and Declan Fischer and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Dick will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Tom Kessler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Philip Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 2:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made on behalf of Richard J. Fischer to St. Philip’s Church and Deaconess Hospice. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Maqbool Ahmed and his office staff; Deaconess Hospice, especially Nancy Ruminer and Tom Capshaw, and all the friends of the Fischer family who helped in caring for Dick during his illness.
