Richard Gannon

RICHARD GANNON Richard J. Gannon, 84, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Mr. Gannon was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt. He had served in the U. S. Army during W. W. II. where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Richard was a graduate of New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University. Mr. Gannon had worked for the Social Security Administration for 22 years before retiring in 1982. He served as a volunteer at the Christian Life Center, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Meals on Wheels and assisted adults in a reading program. He served on the Board of Directors of Visiting Nurse Association and in 1964; he served as president of the Carrolton Club of Whittier, CA. He and his wife organized the Muffins for Memorial Day Service at Powell Cemetery in rural Haubstadt, which has been well attended for 15 years. Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madlyn (Fehrenbacher) Gannon, four daughters and their husbands, Paula and Ed Hodgin of Sandpoint, ID, Patricia and Mike Morones of Whittier, CA, Stephanie and Loren Harmon of Tecumseh, MI and Monica and Chris Mellon of Los Angeles, CA, and three sons and their wives, Michael Gannon of Anaheim, CA, John and Carol Gannon of Whittier, CA and James Gannon and Yoonjeong Lee of Los Angeles, CA. His brother, John Gannon of Sun City, AZ fifteen grandchildren, Jennepher Barnes, Emily Hodgin, Tiffany Harmon, Angie Dibler, Willie Harmon, Ray Harmon, Taylor Corona, Preston Gannon, Natalie Gannon, James Paul Gannon, Theo Lee-Gannon, Yenna Lee-Gannon, Gershom Gannon-O’Gara, Rene Gannon-O’Gara and Madison Mellon and three great grandchildren, Stephen Harmon, Juliana Harmon and James Raymond Leon also survive Mr. Gannon. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Gannon in 1970. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 13, 2006 at St. James Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Betz officiating. The Fort Branch V.F.W. will conduct military rites following the funeral services Sunday at church. Friends may visit with the family from 2 until 8 P.M. Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 1 P.M. until service time Sunday at St. James Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at 5 P.M. Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home conducted by Sister Jenny Miller.
